Hi there, I am completely new with blogs, but I've decided to give it a try.
I am a Filmmaker looking to get in contact with other filmmakers that share the same passion. I 've been around since 2005, year I finished my Cinema School in Barcelona.
Since 2013 I am based in London, city that has given me the opportunity to meet a lot of people and to work in a lot of different projects.
2002-2005
Back in Barcelona, my first short movie was a project for the first year of my cinema School, the tittle; Nine Nightmares.
The story is simple, just one location, my family and friends as the actors, no dialogue.
My second film was a very short one, little more than one minute long, it was shot in Super 8mm. I remember I bought the camera in a second-hand shop; I was super excited to be able to shoot in film. I edited in camera, one take per scene, I knew what I wanted, and also, I was worried because I had only 3 min length of film.
I did the telecine at home. I projected the Super 8mm on the wall, I placed my little Mini DV camera on top of the projector and recorded.
I really liked the result, I am very proud of my little big achievement.
During the following years at the school, I shot short films playing different roles helping other students in their projects, I DOP some of them, most of those projects were shot in Sony 3 CCD’s cameras and Betacam. At the end of the school, I DOP one 16mm short film and I was Camera Operator in a 35 mm, being that the last time I shot in film; that was 2005.
You can check out my narrative page if you are interested to watch my project as DOP.
2006-2010
After school I went through different employments and personal experiences. That would be a subject for another blog, but regarding my passion I managed to make a couple more projects, this time in a shape of documentaries.
The first one was a result of my entrepreneur idea of having a bar, there I met a lot of different characters, but one especially caught my attention, so I decided to make a little video about him. If you know Spanish you can understand it, I've been lazy to add English subtitles, but maybe one day I'll do the homework.
The second documentary came after one of my workmates told me that she was a volunteer in an organization working with people with special needs.
I visit the place were the activities were taking part, I met some other volunters and I came with the idea of record some interviews with them. I also spoke with the Director of the organization and everybody agreed to participate.
If you know Spanish you can understand it, I've been lazy to add English subtitles, but maybe one day I'll do the homework.
2019-2021
In England my knowledge of the new digital cinema cameras grew significantly, I was in daily contact with Cameras like Arri Alexa, Red Dragon and Sony Cine Gama cameras. I also learn about lenses and all the camera accessories, Matte boxes, Follow focus, filters etc.
I bought a small HD camera and some Russian Vintage lenses. At that moment the Vintage look was very popular between cinematographers. So in order to test my lenses and my camera I recorded some images and added some music. The result is a music video I shot in Acton, where I was living between 2018 - 2022.
Around 2018 I started to experiment episodes of anxiety, claustrophobia and panic attacks. I decided to go to therapy, and it helped, I still have some anxiety but is getting better. I decided to make a visual representation of how I was feeling at that moment. Coincidentally I got a Baby Lens for my birthday, which I was very excited to use in my project. The result is this small film which was a catharsis for me.
2020, Covid-19. There's not too much I can write about this unfortunate episode, just to express my condolences to anyone who lost a family member or friend. As per my personal experience I can say it was a positive time in my life, my son was 6 months old and I had lots of time to be with him, I remembered March and April were very sunny in London, obviously enjoying them from the windows, but amazing regardless.
There was a short film competition online, the idea was to do everything in 48 hours, so I decided to came out with an story. Surprisingly, the film won 3 awards in different festivals around the world, as you can Imagine I was super proud. I think it's my best work to date and the one that fills me with the most pride and joy.
In 2021 the UK had a third National Lock-down, it felts like at some point no one was following the government's rules, there were people working and in the streets.
I had a nice camera and lenses for a few days at home, and had an idea of documenting a family meanwhile living under some imposing restrictions.
This is my last project to date, that's 4 years of "inactivity" due in part of family duties and work requirements. Anyway before started to feel rusty I've been pondering about some ideas for a short film and a feature film, and this is were the idea of commencing this blog came from. In introducing myself and my work, my purpose is to get in contact with another filmmakers around the world and share thoughts, ideas and possible collaborations.
Looking forward to hear from you, ACTION.
